How can we support authentic human flourishing?

With the great disparities in our world, how can we be especially attentive to human flourishing for those on the margins? Those on the periphery of society who are struggling to get a fair shot and equal opportunities to succeed?

This “preferential option” for the oppressed, outcast, vulnerable and marginalized places itself at the heart of Christianity.

Jesus’ life and ministry privileged this focus on solidarity. This is reign of God central. It’s inherently ethical. Political. More than feel-good Christian piety, it demands we make commitments – as Jesus did – to stand on the margins and act for justice.

Faith and orthodoxy that limit solidarity for those on the margins should require pause and critical reflection. This isn’t what supporting authentic human flourishing looks like. Not for everyone.
